SILICON VALLEY ARTIST PRESENTS THE ART OF HAND-PAINTED DIGITAL PORTRAITURE IN DALLAS
David Newman's iPad portrait prints now on view at Gables Park 17 by appointment
Dallas, TX - April 2, 2014
San Francisco artist David Newman will present selected works from his iPad Portraits of Innovators in Dallas Saturday April 5th at Gables Park 17's inaugural Intimate Evening of Art. The event, which runs from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., will feature seven artists presenting artwork in varied media.
Newman will present selections of his works from ink to iPad created in the Bay Area Figurative tradition, and will paint new digital portraits from life during the event.
Prints of Newman’s iPad portraits of Apple Co-founder Steve Wozniak, Karolina Tekiela, Jana Lazárková, and Eric Wolfram, all hand-painted from life, are now on view by appointment.
Newman, who studied at the legendary UC Davis art department and at UC Berkeley, covered historic trials as a courtroom artist in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1970’s. In 1982, he painted his first digital portraits from life on the pioneering Via Video System One. In 2006, he began a series of ink-on-paper portraits of Silicon Valley innovators. Since 2010, he has used iPad as his preferred medium to hand-paint more than 150 portraits of innovators from life. Newman has painted entrepreneurs and developers at Google HQ, Le Web and Le Camping in Paris, Microsoft, NASA, PayPal HQ, Stanford University, Twitter HQ, Yahoo HQ, and other high-tech venues.
