First Solo Show of David Newman’s
iPad Portrait Paintings & Original Ink Drawings
at iOSDevCamp at PayPal HQ this Weekend

I will have my first one-person exhibition this weekend showing color Giclée prints from my iPad portraits series at iOSDevCamp 2010 at PayPal HQ in San Jose, California.

Also included in the show are original ink-on-paper portraits of speakers from Ebay and PayPal, drawn from life during their presentations at PayPal X Innovate 09 and iPhoneDevCamp 09.

As Artist-in-Residence of iOSDevCamp, I will paint portraits of attendees from life with my iPad using Autodesk’s Sketchbook Pro application.

The show is open to registered attendees of the $50 conference starting Friday, August 20, through the weekend.  It is open to the public for free for one afternoon only, from 2-6PM this Sunday, August 22nd.

It will be available for public exhibition elsewhere by request.

After studying at the legendary UC Davis art department and graduating from UC Berkeley with a BFA, I have been painting portraits from life since the 1970’s when I worked as a newspaper courtroom artist.  I painted my first computer graphics paintings in 1982, and began painting with the Mac on the first day it became available in 1984.

In 2006, I began a series of ink-on-paper portraits inspired by Silicon Valley innovators. Since the iPad came out in April 2010, I’ve been using the iPad exclusively to paint portraits from life.
